Dear Friends:
We’re thrilled to introduce you to our first Watershed Lit Center Newsletter. We’re well into our first year as a research center and Watershed Lit is already becoming the engine that powers arts and humanities education in CHSS. Watershed Lit serves as a connector to the literary arts through our dynamic events, programs, and publications. Our programs supplement the learning experience of students at all levels by providing real-world training in publishing and editing, literary diplomacy, continuing education for K-12 educators, public humanities through book festival management, speaker series, and the nation’s premier online poetry journal, Poetry Daily.
We’re pleased to introduce our Associate Director, Alice Magelssen-Green who comes to us with over a decade in experience in arts administration and fundraising. As a former English major herself, she is thrilled to work with us to create a home for writers and readers in Northern Virginia.
Watershed Lit is the only research center on campus that is singularly dedicated to providing career-ready experiences and sustained public engagement with the humanities. Our programs reach audiences in Northern Virginia and the greater metro area, but also across the country and the globe. I want to thank the alumni and friends who have already joined our team and generously given their time and money to support Watershed Lit and our students. For those of you learning about us for the first time, I invite you to get involved with Watershed Lit through participation in our exciting literary events this spring or to volunteer as a mentor to students. Stay connected with us through signing up to continue receiving this newsletter.
Thank you for supporting the literary arts at Mason!
Sincerely,
Debra Lattanzi Shutika, Director, Watershed Lit
