Helon Habila Earns Lifetime Achievement Award

The Kaduna Books and Arts Festival has honored Mason creative writing professor Helon Habila with the KabaFest Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his "exceptional writing and significant
contributions to the development of literature globally." The award will be formally presented at the festival's opening ceremonies on Thursday, April 25.

The award serves as a testament to Habila's "talent, creativity, and commitment to the art of writing," wrote Lola Shoneyin, curator of KabaFest and of the Book Buzz Foundation which establishes and supports cultural and literary platforms across the African continent. Shoneyin also emphasized how Habila's "storytelling, captivating characters, and thought-provoking themes have left an
indelible mark on the literary landscape."

The Kaduna Books and Art Festival was founded in 2017 as "a vibrant celebration of literature, art, and culture in the northern part of Nigeria... bringing together a diverse array of writers, artists, and enthusiasts from across the country and beyond."
