Just in time for Halloween, three writers weave tales that will thrill and chill you as illustrator Andrea Tsurumi brings their stories to life through her drawings. Cassandra Khaw’s Nothing But Blackened Teeth takes the classic haunted house story and flips it on its head. N.K. Jemisin calls it “Brutally delicious! Khaw is a master of teasing your senses, and then terrorizing them!” Julya Oui’s Taiping Tales of Terror are campfire tales about gruesome creatures that serve as an homage to the writer’s hometown and her favorite horror writers. Isabel Yap’s collection of 13 sci fi, fabulist and horror stories, Never Have I Ever, surrounds readers with spells, tales, and urban legends. Charlie Jane Anders says, “I’m in awe of her capacity for playful weirdness and mind-expanding terror.”
Cassandra Khaw is an award-winning game writer, and former scriptwriter at Ubisoft Montreal. Khaw’s work can be found in places like Fantasy & Science Fiction, Lightspeed, and Tor.com. Khaw’s first original novella, Hammers on Bone, was a British Fantasy award and Locus award finalist, and their novella, Nothing But Blackened Teeth, is published by Nightfire.
Julya Oui loves keeping company with monsters, gathering nightmares and dreaming up worlds that defy logic. While Mother Nature and her garden inspire her, mind-bending curiosities motivate her. She has published five short horror story collections, written feature films, TV movies, animation scripts, a few stage plays, and grown quite a wild garden in her home.
Isabel Yap is a Filipino author who writes fiction and poetry, works in the tech industry, and drinks tea. Born and raised in Manila, she has also lived in California and London. She holds a BS in Marketing from Santa Clara University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Her work has been a finalist for the Locus Awards and long-listed for the Hugo Awards, and has appeared in venues including Tor.com, Lithub, and Year’s Best Weird Fiction. Her debut short story collection, Never Have I Ever, was published in 2021 by Small Beer Press.
Andrea Tsurumi is an author, illustrator and cartoonist originally from New York who now lives with her spouse and their dog in Philadelphia.
